  • When you arrive to the hospital, the admitting staff will process your admission. Your companion will wait at a designated area.  A nurse, ensuring your readiness for surgery, will arrange to transport you to the pre-operative waiting area, where you will be introduced to the surgical team.
  • The anesthesiologist will see you before the surgery to discuss the appropriate anesthesia, either epidural or general.
  • The total joint replacement procedure usually takes between one and two hours; from entering the operating room to reaching the recovery room could be three hours or more. The average hospital stay after joint replacement is usually three to five days.
  • During your hospitalization, every medical equipment use and physical therapy will be coordinated by the hospital staff and Dr. Ricardo J. Reina. All medical equipment and physical therapy will be subject to your medical coverage approval.
  • Before being discharged from the hospital, the patient has to have scheduled a physical rehabilitation program. A social worker or a discharge planner can coordinate your post operative therapies, subject to your health plan coverage, and the available space of the assigned center.
